may 2009
Market Brief is produced by Technomic Inc., a leading provider of consulting and consumer research to the restaurant industry. Every month they include three articles that address relevant industry topics. Technomic provides a summary - the "Bottom Line" as they call it, followed by "Business Building Implications". This quick ending summary will give you concrete suggestions to positively impact your operation and profitability.

One of the "Bottom Line" topics addressed in the May 2009 Issues states:

"The consumer's restaurant value equation is more complex than ever before, but the basics remain. Price comes out on top-followed by food quality, freshness and craveability as well as convenience and cleanliness. It's unlikely that these demands will ever change, though their relative ranking may go up and down with the economy."

Suffolk Bar May Have To Back Down Over Copyright Suite

If you play music or have live music in your establishment, you may be at risk for expensive lawsuits.

The American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP)  says for an annual fee,  TV networks, radio stations, restaurants, nightclubs and a slew of other venues have the right to play their clients' music - an inventory of about 8-1/2 million songs.

Not following along with the ASCAP is a lesson a small Suffolk bar in the middle of nowhere has learned the hard way.
